Ariana will ensure the show opens with a bang, alongside Jessie J and Nicki Minaj
Opening the show is teen sensation of the moment, Ariana Grande who will be assisted by Jessie J and Nicki Minaj as she performs her hit ‘Bang Bang’. As Ariana’s career is still blossoming we’re not expecting a Miley moment from her this year, however we will be keeping our eyes on Ms Minaj. The ‘Anaconda’ singer has already had a spot of drama, after one of her backing dancers was bitten by a snake during rehearsals.
Iggy Azalea is the latest artist to suffer a mishap at a VMA-related performance
While the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are clearly prestigious and a desirable addition to any artists’ award collection, it would seem that they are also more than a little hazardous - as Australian rapper Iggy Azalea found out on Friday (22 August) night. The Fancy hit-maker was performing a pre-MTV VMAs concert with Charlie XCX at the Avalon Theatre in Hollywood when she backed right off stage.
Ever the professional, Iggy Azalea didn't let a little stage slip stop her set
Fortunately, she appeared unharmed and, with the help of a security guard, she was put right back on top where she carried on with her set undeterred. Clearly in good spirits, despite her unscheduled fall, Azalea posted a video of her accident to her Instagram account with the hashtag #TheShowMustGoOn.

Nicky Minaj is to sing with Ariana Grande and Jessie J for the opeing act of the VMAs
Last year's MTV Video Music Awards sparked off some controversy due to Miley Cyrus' 'seductive' twerking on the then married Robin Thicke while wearing only her underwear and making provocative gestures with a giant foam finger. It's out! Finally the video for "Anaconda" exists. Let's talk about that.
“Oh my gosh, look at her butt” Nicki Minaj declares on Anaconda in the vein of that gift to humanity that is Sir Mix-a-Lot’s Baby Got Back. And we do. For the four minutes and forty-nine seconds of Anaconda, that’s basically all you can do.
Nicki Minaj is at the top of her game right now.
But the subtle message under all the twerking isn’t lost – the butt and the rest of the body belong solely to Miss Minaj and she calls all the shots. Which is a message we can all get behind, right? Also, she rocks Alexander McQueen and Balmain at various points in the video, which is a fashion choice we can totally get behind.

Music's newest sweetheart just can't stop producing brilliant tunes
At just 21-years-old, Ariana Grande is currently taking the music world by storm and doing so with style. We've heard 'Bang Bang,' but what are some of the other best pop songs with three artists?
The only thing better than one pop star on a song is three, right? How about a combination of Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj - ALL on one track? It's what we got with the newly released 'Bang Bang' single, and it's proving that songs like these need to be happen more often.
'Bang Bang' was released on July 29
Released this week, the single featuring Jessie, Nicki, and Ari is an easy frontrunner for "Song of the Summer," and hell, maybe even pop song of the year. It'll be included on Jessie J's upcoming album this fall, as well as in the deluxe edition of Grande's new record, My Everything, so 'Bang Bang' isn't going away anytime soon. But what makes it so great? A mix of all the unique qualities in the girls - Jessie's explosive vocals, Grande's sassy croon, and Minaj's signature fierce rap verse makes for a track that only gets better with every listen. Coupled with the glossy production of mastermind producer Max Martin, 'Bang Bang' simply can't not be a hit. It's even being touted as 'Lady Marmalade 2.0' - the juggernaut number one smash in 2004 that featured Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, and Pink. Arguably, 'Bang Bang' outshines that track in every way possible, and having three vs. four is just easier to listen to. With that said, which songs are the best triple threats in pop music over the past couple of years?

Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj release their joint single 'Bang, Bang,' and it's fantastic.
What happens when three of the biggest names in pop music all have albums coming out soon? You put them together to make a collaborative single, of course. Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande linked up to create their brand new single, 'Bang Bang,' and it sounds better than you'd ever expect.
'Bang Bang' will be included on Jessie J's upcoming album
'Bang Bang' is proof that just because it's almost August doesn't mean the title for "Song of the Summer" still isn't up for grabs. Produced by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, and Ilya Salmanzadeh - the crew behind Ariana Grande's 'Problem' - the track is an absolute smash that shows the best qualities of Jessie J, Grande, and Minaj. The song is going to serve as an album track off Jessie J's upcoming album set for release later this fall. After the disappointing sales numbers for her last record, Alive, Jessie J was in the studio hard at work earlier this year for album number three. Alive never even saw a U.S. release, so the fact that this may be her record's lead single could bode well for the record's chart potential in the future.

Can Grande and Jessie J's new single match the success of "Problem"?
Ariana Grande is checking off rap babes to collaborate with one by one. Grande is on Jessie J’s new single Bang Bang, along with Nicki Minaj. The single premiered on Monday, a day before it became available for purchase. The catchy summer tune is part of Jessie’s upcoming album – yet to receive a cover and a name – and will also be featured as a bonus track on the deluxe editions of Ariana's own upcoming record My Everything. So get ready to hear this song everywhere this summer. Not that anyone minds, of course.
Pop's new dream team?
Teasing the new album, Grande posted a short snippet on Instagram yesterday. For her own teaser, Nicki Minaj took a slightly different route. The rap queen posted a caricature of the three divas in leather gear, brandishing guns like a trio of kick-ass futuristic space warriors… or something. It looked cool, anyway.

The hip-hop star shared another racy pic of her 'Anaconda' photo-shoot to deliver her fans the bad news.
Nicki Minaj managed to garner the attention of an undoubtedly enormous number of fans, mainly male, after unveiling some very revealing cover art for her new single 'Anaconda.' But for anyone interested in the actual song, they will have to wait a little longer.
Minaj will be releasing 'Anaconda' a week later
The 31 year-old star was scheduled to release her upcoming track this Monday (July 28th), but for an unknown reason the release date has been pushed back a full week. However, as an apology for anyone excited to hear 'Anaconda,' Minaj took to Instagram to post another photo from her racy photo-shoot, which features a rather small pink G-string.
Iggy Azalea is gracing August's cover of Cosmopolitan Australian but her perfect hour glass figure appears to have been slimmed down slightly. Is this a case of photoshopping? Cosmopolitan have denied it but who's to know?
Australian singer Iggy Azalea has been the focus of a photoshopping scandal after she appeared on the cover of Cosmopolitan Australia. The star certainly didn't need slimming down and boasts a pair of toned, well muscled legs which certainly seem slimmer in her recent shoot with the magazine.
Has Iggy Azalea been slimmed down for the cover of Cosmo?
Wearing a pastel coloured playsuit in blues, pink, white and gold the 24-year-old singer posed with her hands on her hips. The singer was accessorised with a pair of large gold earrings, gold bracelets and a number of gold rings. Azalea wore her air in a high pony tail for the shoot. Although she looked fabulous, there did seem to be a little of her missing.

Did Nicki make a snide remark about Iggy not writing her own songs?
Nicki Minaj and her relationship with fellow rapper Iggy Azalea are the subject of speculation today after it emerged that Nicki made some offhand, and rather pointed remarks at last night's BET Awards. The 'Superbass' singer picked up the Best Female Hip Hop award at the event but seemed to detonate a pretty heavy diss during her acceptance speech.
The self-aggrandising rap singer wanted to set a few things straight during her speech and sai "What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is, that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it." Immediately, the room took Nicki's words as venom against Iggy Azalea, who is rumoured to use ghost writers.
As everyone laughed and looked shocked, Nicki immediately tried to retract what she said, "No, no, no shade. No, no, no shade." However, like it or not, the diss had been made.

The victim was in stable condition as of Sunday night.
BET Awards weekend started with a tragedy this year, when a guest at Meek Mill’s pre-awards party ended up in hospital with stab wounds. The incident took place on Saturday night, June 28, at Lure nightclub. Meek Mill was hosting a rousing pre-BET bash, when a fight broke out. The 20-something man was rushed to Cedars-Sinai hospital, but TMZ has obtained footage of him laying on the curb waiting for help while a friend yells at the police officers to hurry the ambulance.
Meek Mill himself was not directly involved in the brawl.
The man incurred two stab wounds in the stomach, but his condition is stable, the website also reports. The reason for the fight has not been uncovered so far. The man’s identity and that of his attacker are being withheld. The party was also attended by The Game, Lil Boosie, Mase and actress Kyla Pratt.
On the eve of the award show, BET has announced a performance by Lifetime Achievement honoree Lionel Richie.
It’s almost time for the BET awards and tonight’s show promises some memorable moments. Lionel Richie has been tapped to perform during the annual award show, as well as being this year’s Lifetime Achievement honoree. He joins this year’s lineup, which also includes stars like Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams, Nicki Minaj, John Legend and Drake.

Currently in the fifth decade of his career, Richie’s list of achievements is quite impressive. He has sold over 100 million albums worldwide and won five Grammy awards. His music has changed the face of soul and R&B, but Richie frequently crosses genre lines to experiment with pop, soft rock and even country.

With gig after gig, Minaj is slowly making her name as a queen in the rap industry.
Nicki Minaj just gave her critics some more ammo with another (maybe?) Lil Kim tribute. Nipple pasties? What is this, the 1999 VMAs? Well, no. Nicki Minaj rocked the (admittedly really cool) outfit to Hot 97 FM’s Summer Jam 2014 at the Met Life Stadium.
See? It's a good look!
And let’s be clear here – for an outfit that features black and white hip hugging pants, and a shirt seemingly made of chainmail – the look works surprisingly well. This staff writer is definitely into it. And with Miley Cyrus having rocked the look back in 2013 and Miss Minaj giving it a spin now, we’re tempted to declare the comeback of the nipple pasty. You’ll have to consult the fashion blogs on that one though.

Nicki Minaj made $50,000 an hour for attending Mayweather's kids birthday party.

The superstar hip-hop star stayed for around an hour, hanging out with Iyanna and her friends and taking various snaps. And that was it. For $50,000. Still, it's mere pocket change to Floyd.
The 31 year-old star sheds light on the challenges female rapper's face, in a male-packed music industry.
Nicki Minaj is one of hip-hop's leading ladies, but in her own opinion it is quite astonishing she is at the forefront of the music genre.
The 31 year-old star has been doing press tours as of late to promote her newest single 'Pills N Potions," which is garnering a large amount of interest as it is much more heartfelt and melodic track, rather than her her usual synth pop/aggressive rap style.
But the change may be something Minaj was forced to do, she was recently interviewed by her hometown radio station, New York's 'The Breakfast Club Power 105.1, and described hip-hop as "not female friendly."

Minaj must have enjoyed acting in the newly released comedy 'The Other Woman', opposite Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton.
The 31 year-old music star recently revealed she wants to continue acting and her recent experience on a film-set has given her an idea of what is to be expected.
"It gave me an idea as to what the world would be like being on a set and being on a trailer for hours. And now that I know it's something I can do, I think I want to expand a role eventually," Nicki told MTV News.

While the story isn't particularly original, and the movie tends to drift over the top into broad slapstick, this comedy wins us over due to the camaraderie between the characters. Most refreshingly, this is a film about women teaming up rather than scratching each others' eyes out. So it continually catches us off guard in all the right ways.
In Manhattan, lawyer Carly (Cameron Diaz) has finally met the perfect man in Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). But just as their relationship is about to shift into something much more serious, she discovers that he has a wife, Kate (Leslie Mann), in the suburbs. Shocked, Carly and Kate realise that Mark is the person they should be angry at, so they team up to get even. When they discover that he has another mistress, Amber (Kate Upton), they recruit her to their plan as well. And then they find evidence that his business dealings are more than a little dodgy.
While the plot lends itself to a blackly comical approach, director Nick Cassavetes instead keeps everything silly and simplistic, letting the actresses overplay their scenes. Sometimes this results in something rather hilarious, but it also undermines any credibility the story might have. Mann and Coster-Waldau are the most guilty in this sense, chomping madly on the scenery. Instead, it's the way each character works together that brings the situations to life and keeps us laughing. Although a more confident approach to the material would have made the film much stronger.

The crooner has chosen to take up the last remaining judging spot on Fox's hit reality show
Harry Connick Jr. will be pitching up next to Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez in the upcoming season of the ever-popular American Idol, as the singer has been confirmed as the third and final artist to sit in the judge's seat next season. Having served as a mentor on the show on multiple occasions, the singer will finally ascend to the judge's table for the show's 13th season, The Hollywood Reporter first revealed.
Harry Connick Jr. may possibly last more than one season as a judge
On Friday (30 August) it was confirmed that the crooner had signed a deal to become the latest judge on the show as producers apparently wanted a lack of female presence on the show following the friction and drama that followed last season's bickering judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. The friction between the two reflected particularly badly in the show's key demographic; older women, something that the addition of Connick will hopefully strengthen this time around.

Fox finally ripped the bandage and called time on Minaj and Carey's Idol presence.
The Great American Idol eviction continues at full speed with Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey being the latest two to get the boot. Nobody is entirely shocked by the news though, as this seemed to be looming over the judges’ heads. With the last season, which ended with Candice Glover being crowned as the winner pulled in the lowest viewing figures of any American Idol year – with just 14.2 million people tuning in to watch the finale – it was clear something was amiss. Apparently the (truly impressive) level of conflict and drama that Minaj and Carey brought to the format, wasn’t enough to get the audience to pay attention. Rumors of firings and a complete restructuring of the judging panel have also been rampant ever since the show’s disappointing finale. It was only a matter of time.
Both Nicki and Mariah announced the news if their respective departures over Twitter and Fox released statements regarding both decisions, which, considering the circumstances, was the very least they could do.
"Mariah Carey is a true global icon - one of the most accomplished artists on the planet - and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the 'American Idol' contestants this season," Fox said, via Reuters.
Keith Urban may be on his way out of American Idol.
Keith Urban says he is still awaiting his fate on American Idol and remains in the dark of producer's plans for the new season. Urban has been a popular and inoffensive judge on the show for season twelve, though industry sources suggest Fox are planning a complete overhaul of the show for season thirteen.
"I have no official information of anything. I'm pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around," Urban told the Associated Press, "I don't know anything more about what's happening next season. It was like this before I signed on . . . so it's not unusual for the Idol folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together." Last week, E! News reported that Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson and Urban would be replaced by Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert and possibly Aiken. American Idol producers were left red-faced midway through season twelve after it emerged they had tried to replace Mariah with previous judge Jennifer Lopez following dwindling viewer ratings. Carey's legal team blocked any such thing from happening.
We assume Urban wouldn't be too fussed should Idol bosses want to take the show in a different direction. His new album Fuse will hit shelves on September 10, 2013 and he'll head out on a huge tour in mid-July. Oh, and he's married to Nicole Kidman. So...
Former 'American Idol' finalist Jennifer Hudson is rumoured to be on the judging panel for season 13.
Jennifer Hudson is reportedly in talks about becoming a judge on the 13th season of 'American Idol'; the same show on which she became a finalist in season 3.
The 'Dreamgirls' star and Grammy winning pop star has had previous experience in talent show judging, having become Kelly Rowland's guest mentor during the Judges Houses stage of the UK show 'The X Factor'. Now she could be set to revisit the beginnings of her own career though, this time, on the other side of the table according to a source in TheWrap. She made an appearance on the show recently for the finale and is allegedly now in talks with the producers. 'She got the offer and her reps are currently negotiating with [production company] Fremantle', said the source, adding, 'The show's producers feel they've lost their core audience. And they want to bring back former contestants in order to tell their core audience, 'We love you.' They know they've made some major mistakes over the past few seasons and they want to make it right with their fans.'

The heiress teams up with Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj and co.
Paris Hilton looks to have her career path mapped out for the next few years, as the heiress is apparently in talks with Cash Money, the gratuitous record label/franchise run by Lil Wayne. The heiress told Showbiz 411 that she is lining up a move into the chain that includes Drake and Nicki Minaj as well as Weezy.
Following her stand-out role in the video for 'Tapout', the track from the Birdman, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Future and Mack Maine collective Rich Gang, it seems as though Wayne's keen business acumen has made sure her talents didn't go unnoticed. Paris has also been spotted partying with the Cash Money crew on a number of occasions, even inviting Wayne to her recent birthday bash.

Taylor Swift, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj among star arrivals at the 2013 Billboard Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The 2013 Billboard Music Awards looked to be one of the most celeb-filled events of the year with some of the music industry's biggest stars making their glamorous arrivals.
'22' singer Taylor Swift clutched eight accolades to her chest as she posed on the red carpet having won Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Country Album for 'Red', Top Country Song with 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together', Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist and Top Country Artist. Carly Rae Jepsen was another young female star to land a prize winning Top Digital Song and Top Pop Song for her massive 2012 hit 'Call Me Maybe'. Queen of Pop Madonna scooped up three well deserved awards including Top Dance Album for 'MDNA', Top Dance Artist and Top Touring Artist after her controversial 'MDNA' tour which landed her amidst a handful of lawsuits. There was no sign of letting up on the controversial front either as she donned hotpants, suspenders and fishnets at the Billboard event. Top Streaming Artist, Top Rap Artist and Top Rap Album with 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' went to Nicki Minaj while Top EDM Artist was none other than David Guetta who brought his wife Cathy Guetta along with him to the awards show.
Star used humor to help overcome school issues
Nicki Minaj might be a larger-than-life extroverted pop star these days, but she’s had to overcome some seriously self-esteem damaging battles to get there. The singer was looking typically outrageous on the cover of Teen Vogue this week, but the accompanying interview saw the current American Idol judge open up about getting bullied at school.
“Every time my parents fought, my mother would have us move and I would have to go to a new school, which meant I'd have to face the task of making new friends,' she told the magazine of the circumstances that led to it. “I dreaded it. I had butterflies in my stomach each time: Are people going to like or hate me? Will they talk about me?”
Bullying came her way to the extent that her older brother sometimes had to get involved: “I encountered jealous girls a lot—it wasn't like I had nice clothes, so they couldn't be envious of that, but they were like, "You shouldn't be that confident,"' she said. “Sometimes, if I felt like there was a physical threat, I would call my older brother and say, ‘Can you meet me after school because I don't know what might happen?’” Minaj would stand her ground though, “Sometimes there'd be a fight, sometimes not. I let people know I wasn't going to be pushed around. What it came down to is that the bullies wanted me to bow down to them. And I just wouldn't.” She also found humor helped her get through the troubles “I was a jokester. I let everything roll off my back,' she said. “I always felt like I had other things going in my life outside of school, like church and extracurriculars—I was even on the softball team.”

After Jackson bowed out, Nicki Minaj sort of commented on the possible firings.
The Inquisition has commenced at Fox’s American Idol and Randy Jackson, the only remaining original judge will be the first to go. To be fair, Jackson is leaving on his own accord, or at least the head honchos at Idol are letting him make it seem so. Earlier this week he announced his graceful exit: “Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on ‘American Idol’ I have decided it is time to leave after this season,” he said.
“I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry,” said Jackson, who has been on the show since its inception in 2002. The bets are now being placed on who will be next. It’s no secret that ratings have been lower than ever this season (New York Daily News reports a 25% drop since last season). It’s also a widely known fact that should the changes continue, the judging panel to be the first to go. Nicki Minaj addressed the commotion on Ryan Seacrest’s show this Thursday, saying: “That’s a million-dollar question. I have to say this all the time, but I want people to know it’s genuinely from my heart. I love the people on ‘Idol.’ I genuinely do. If I had to do this all over again, I would have done ‘Idol.’ Because it’s fun, it’s laughs.” In might be, but not for very much longer.
The original judge was the first to go.
The singer recently explained the concept behind her new song and the accompanying video.
Fresh off the highly talked about Met ball earlier this week, Alicia Keys jetted off to Vegas to film the music video for her new single Tears Always Win. The track is the latest release of Girl on Fire and it tells the story of a woman, coping with a difficult breakup, which affects all other aspects of her life. Keys discussed the song and the video in depth with MTV, saying: "It's a girl and her working two jobs and she's got all these things going on. But the whole time, she's totally distracted because she's only thinking about how she feels [about her ex], almost at the point [where] you're thinking about the person, but you're also thinking about, kind of, your loneliness and how you feel. How're you gonna get through it? The video is totally beautiful, really unexpected. It has some Vegas pieces in it. I think the way it goes on, it really brings a relevance to the words and you'll really feel it. I'm loving it."
It doesn’t seem like a happy ending for the song’s protagonist, but at least, if Keys is right, we will get to enjoy some beautiful visuals. The Vegas setting should certainly offer plenty of those for the Tears Always Win video. But it will mainly focus on the character’s inner turmoil, said the singer/songwriter. "So, Tears Always Win is really about a relationship that's over and you're remembering all the times that it was there," she said. "You're remembering all the ways they filled your space and now that it's not there. You're telling yourself you don't need them, but you're missing them and you're crying about it."

American Idol bosses are planning a complete overhaul of the show, including getting rid of all four judges
Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson are all set to be thrown off the American Idol judging panel in a complete remodelling of the singing competition by FOX. The network has seen viewer ratings over the current season drop to 25% lower than last years overall figures.
This years stats are even further from the wonder years of the Simon Cowell-era, but rather than concede that they are flogging a dead horse FOX are steadfast in their loyalty to the show as they look to compete with NBC's The Voice as well as The X Factor, which is also shown on FOX. The Warp broke the news of the plans to ship out this seasons newly installed panel and although the show is struggling, admitted it is still popular and the network's drastic plan could work in their favour.
Mariah Carey might not be coming back next season

Angie Miller was eliminated from American Idol, despite being the huge favorite to win the competition.
Angie Miller - the favorite to win American Idol since the Hollywood rounds - was sensationally booted out of the competition on Thursday (May 9, 2013). Miller stunned the judges earlier in the competition with a performance of her original song 'You Set Me Free' and even changed her name from 'Angela' to 'Angie' as audiences warmed to her.
However, Miller's run on Idol ended at the top three after her elimination last night. It followed Wednesday night performances of Elton John's 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word,' Pink's 'Try' and Emile Sande's 'Maybe' after which she was deemed to be the round one winner. Following her shocking elimination, she was often unable to sing the lyrics to her exit song after being overcome with emotion.
Miller's exit paves the way for a final including Candice Glover and Kree Harrison, slightly underwhelming for Idol audiences. Once this year's victor is crowned, the show looks set to undergo a major overhaul with veteran judge Randy Jackson already announcing his exit. According to industry website The Wrap, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban are also set to get their marching orders are a season of poor reviews and worse ratings.

Randy Jackson is the first of the four judges to confirm he is leaving American Idol
Randy Jackson has confirmed that he is leaving American Idol, adding credence to reports that he and the three judges, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban have been axed from the show in a dramatic shakeup. In a devastating cull, Idol bosses have decided to start over and reportedly told all four judges they would not be returning next season.
"Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season," Jackson said in a statement, "I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry," he said. "It's been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures."
An insider told The Wrap on Thursday (May 9, 2013) that Fox plans to start the show from scratch after the current season came in for the worst reviews and ratings of the series so far. The website also reported how executive producer Nigel Lythgoe may not be returning, though Ryan Seacrest will probably stick around.

Is Carey's $18 million contract in danger or not?
It’s no secret that “American Idol” has been struggling in the ratings department for a few seasons now and that the latest overhaul of the judjing panel, including the addition of Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj was meant to remedy the situation. That hasn’t happened unfortunately, as viewer numbers continue to plummet. Currently, Idol is pulling in around 12-13 million viewers, about half of its viewership in the glory days. Adding Carey and Nicki Minaj to the mix was meant to stir up some drama, ignite a spark in the judging panel that would get the viewers interested again, but their half-hearted disagreements weren’t exactly what the viewers, and consequently Fox, were looking for.
This sparked rumours that Fox was gearing up to replace Carey mid-season, possibly with veteran panelist Jennifer Lopez. Lopez’s previous appointment as a judge did manage to boost ratings for her first season, before things returned to their disappointingly anemic average and Lopez was booted off. The rumour that Carey now faces the same fate – a termination of her $18 million contract, originated from a report by The Hollywood Reporter, which claimed that Fox execs were considering the switch back.
Fox Entertainment Chairman Keith Reily however, has denied that the network has any intention of firing Mariah and noted that even though Idol’s ratings are slipping, they are still higher than any other reality format. With that and with Mariah’s killer legal team, reportedly threatening legal action, according to New York Daily News, Carey’s judging gig is still looking pretty secure.
Though Nicki MInaj has impressed as an American Idol judge this year, she will not perform on the show.
Nicki Minaj has certainly been a fiery judge during the live shows of American Idol, though the Young Money rapper insists she will not follow Keith Urban and perform on the show herself. "I don't know if I want to wear the performer hat on Idol" Minaj told MTV News, "I think kudos to Keith for doing it, but I just don't know if I want to wear that hat there."
Nicki is probably aware that both judging and performing on the show comes across as a little, well, greedy. The singer has become a hit with American Idol viewers for her brutally honest opinions of contestants, though she insists everyone in the live round of the show deserves their place. "All of these kids that are left right now, I don't want to see any one of them go now," she said, "To be completely honest, I feel they could all go out and make an album right now and be successful around the world. And also, they put in work, they put in a lot of work and they deserve to be there. I think that's what makes me happy. The people we have left deserve to be there."
There were high hopes for singer R&B singer Burnell Taylor, though he struggled through Bon Jovi's 'You Give Love A Bad Name' and was subsequently eliminated on Thursday. Nevertheless, Minaj remains hopeful for its future in the music business, "Burnell has a real R&B soulful John Legend voice to me. I could completely see myself doing a song with Burnell," Minaj said.

Lil' Wayne and Nicki Minaj get up close and personal in new music video
This could well be a contender for ‘most misleading song title of the year,’ because the scenes contained herein are far from looking like any high school that any of us here at Contactmusic have ever set foot in. In fact, you only have to wait a little under 30 seconds before you have an eyeful of Nicki Minaj’s ample buttocks. more like two eyefuls, in fact. We learnt a lot at high school but instantly, this video has taught us much about neon pink swim suits and Nicki Minaj’s butt cheeks than we ever realised we needed to know.
American Idol producers revert to old ideas and come up with few surprises
Really, American Idol? Another Motown special? You’d think that with so much experience under their belts, and with world-class talent like Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey on board, the folks behind American Idol would be able to think of something a little more… how you say… challenging? or interesting, even, than yet another Motown-themed evening on American Idol. That’s what viewers were faced with last night though and once again, it is via the medium of Motown that the weekly winners and losers shall be decided.
So who were those winners and losers? Well, Nicki Minaj has already stated, unequivocally, that whoever wins this year’s American Idol, it will not be a male contestant. Hanging on by a thread, then, is Lazaro Arbos. Even the presence of a gaggle of backing singers and brass players couldn’t lift Lazaro’s performance above being mediocre. And as for his joint performance with Burnell Taylor and Davin Velez? Well, that was a disaster and he even admitted that he didn’t know the words to the song. It’s not looking good for Lazaro right now.
Rapper Lil' Wayne is in ICU but it's not clear just how ill he is
Just how ill is Lil’ Wayne? The rapper was admitted to hospital last week after suffering multiple, apparently serious seizures. He was admitted on Tuesday (March 12, 2013) and then reportedly re-admitted to the ICU the following day, after he was discharged but found lying unconscious on the floor, by his bodyguard. Sources at the hospital told TMZ that Lil’ Wayne was in a critical condition, but stabilizing. However, several members of his circle are keen to convince his fans that he’s doing just fine.
Nicki Minaj visited Wayne in hospital on Saturday (March 16, 2013) and took a huge bundle of balloons with her and she’s not the only hip-hop superstar to pop in to Cedars-Sinai hospital to see how he’s doing. Birdman and Drake have also taken some time out to pay the guy a visit and messages have been sent from Lil’ Wayne’s Twitter page to reassure people that he’s doing ok. On Friday, a message was sent out to say “I’m good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love.” Birdman, his label boss tweeted “My son is feelin Good. will be home real soon” and according to The Guardian, denied the reports that Lil Wayne was in an induced coma and breathing through tubes. “Dont believe the nonsense about comas and tubes to breathe … that's false!!" tweeted Young Money president Mack Maine. "Wayne is alive and well!” he’s reported as saying.
There have been no photos of Lil Wayne made available since he was admitted to hospital and conflicting reports of his state of health make it difficult to ascertain just how sick he is.
Continue reading: Just How Sick Is Lil' Wayne? Conflicting Reports Over Rapper's Seizures
Lil Wayne's health has been something of a concern over the past few months and though he has suffered more seizures over the past week, and even had a brief stint in hospital, he has used twitter to reassure fans that he's a-okay.
I'm good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love.— Lil Wayne WEEZY F (@LilTunechi) March 16, 2013
Weezy first missed a court date earlier in the year when he reportedly suffered seizures during a plane journey which forced the aircraft to land early. At the time it was brushed off as 'dehydration', but since the rapper suffered further seizures in a considerably more public sphere - the set of a Nicki Minaj video - there's no way of him putting this latest health scare down to lack of fluids.
American Idol has finally whittled down its performers to just ten, though questions remain about the quality on show.
America has spoken. The general public have chosen this year's American Idol Top 10, and there's few surprises in the line-up for season eight of the show. Blessed with good looks and a half-decent voice, Paul Jolley was the first to make it through to the live final on Thursday's show, despite receiving only lukewarm support from Nicki Minaj and her fellow judges. It's difficult to imagine Jolley as a frontrunner for the competition and we predict he'll be packing his bags pretty early.
A shoo-in for the Top 10, Curtis Finch Jr duly made it through after his sensational version of John Legend's 'So High' this week, while fan favorites Devin Velez an Lazaro Abros also made it through comfortably. From the girls, Janelle Arthur made it through, singing Dierks Bentley's Home as her 'victory song.' After a couple of so-so performances in recent weeks, home is probably closer than she thinks.
Strong vocalist Candice Glover and Angie Miller also made it through, with the former singing Mary J. Blige's 'Goin Down' and establishing herself as the competition's most accomplished R&B singer. Filling out the Top 10 were Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb and Burnell.

It will be a busy year ahead of Nicki Minaj, with a new season of Idol and a new album both on the way.
Nicky Minaj isn’t really someone we’re used to seeing in the workaholic role, but the eccentric star has been all about the multi-tasking lately.
Minaj has recently revealed that she has indeed signed on to do another season as a judge on the American Idol panel. Additionally, Minaj is all but ready to go back into the studio for her next album, MTV News reports. While the singer/rapper/pink hair aficionado already has the direction of her next release figured out, she still hasn’t clocked in any studio time on it just yet. The reason? Miss Minaj would like to tie up all of the loose ends on her last album – the overly titled Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up. That’s certainly a mouthful. The singer revealed that she will be shooting and releasing a video for her collaboration with Lil’ Wayne, High School, before moving on to her next project. You’ve got to admire that kind of work ethic.
