Nick Cave talks candidly about the death of his teenage son for the first time in the new trailer for his documentary 'One More Time With Feeling'. He explains how such tragic circumstances can change a person, and it seems his ordeal has had a profound effect on how his 16th studio album 'Skeleton Tree' has developed.

The black and white trailer for the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds film is laid over eerie violin and light piano as Cave talks about personal identity. He expresses that while most people don't expect to change significantly in their lifetime, rather simply adapting and improving, sometimes life can present crises that transform a person.

'Most of us don't want to change, really', Nick Cave says in the trailer. 'I mean, why should we? What we do want is sort of modifications on the original model. We keep on being ourselves, but just hopefully better versions of ourselves. But what happens when an event occurs that is so catastrophic that you just change? You change from the known person to an unknown person, so that when you look at yourself in the mirror, you recognise the person that you were, but the person inside the skin is a different person.'

In July 2015, Nick Cave suffered a huge personal loss when his 15-year-old son Arthur died after falling from a cliff in Brighton, apparently after taking LSD. He has never spoken publicly about the tragedy, other than to release a statement with his wife Susie Bick confirming the news. That is until now. The incident occurred mid-way through the development of Cave's album/documentary project, which forced him to look at the work a little differently.

Dubbed as a 'unique worldwide cinema event', the documentary has been directed by Andrew Dominik who helmed 2007's 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'; a film which saw Cave himself make a cameo appearance alongside The Bad Seed's Warren Ellis.

'One More Time With Feeling' and 'Skeleton Tree' is set to be released on September 8th 2016.
