Mariah Carey has truly bolstered the national pride lately, having performed at Macy's July Fourth celebrations in glamorously patriotic fashion and has now stirred the country's hearts once more in a brave performance with the world-renowned New York Philharmonic Orchestra at the Major League Baseball's All-Star Charity Concert in Central Park on Saturday (13th July).

Mariah Carey Performs For A Good Cause, Despite Her Shoulder Injury.

Carey had injured her shoulder last week whilst filming a video to accompany a remix of her '#Beautiful' collaboration with Miguel. Rep Cindi Berger confirmed to CNN: "Mariah injured herself while filming a video with Jeezy for the remix of #Beautiful, directed by her husband Nick Cannon," explaining "She was taken to hospital late last night, where doctors reset her shoulder. She is fine."

Audiences Marvelled At How Elegantly Mariah's Injury Was Concealed.

Against the symphonic backdrop of the Philharmonic Orchestra's soul-rousing musical accompaniment, Carey displayed her impressive and soulful vocal range in songs such as 'My All', the never-before-heard-live 'Looking In', and of course 'Hero.'

Carey's arm, still in a sling, was cleverly concealed by a succession of elegant coverings imbued with fur, diamonds or feathers, adding a breath-taking glamour to an unfortunate circumstance. Even the 43 year-old's microphone stand was accessorised with a glittering layer of diamonds.

According to the New York Times, Mariah wasn't the only one bringing an eye-catching costume to the Major League Baseball's Hurricane Sandy benefit. The NYPhil's musical director Alan Gilbert, renowned for his usually impeccably dashing formal wear, chose instead on this special occasion to don a bright orange National League jersey to commemorate his orchestra's baseball game appearance.

However, apparently eyebrows have been raised regarding Ms. Carey's mistake when calling out the name of the highly accomplished orchestra, referring to the collective as "the New York City Philharmonic" though it is is hard to criticise such a bold performance in the face of her painful injury and she showed herself to be the jewel in the crown of a wondrous evening of polished classical music, bringing the genre to a whole new audience.
