British rapper Nick Brewer makes an important statement about social media in the video for his new single 'Miss Online Superstar' featuring JP Cooper. It appears on his 'Four Miles Further' EP released earlier this year through Island Records.
The video begins with an argument between a couple in which the guy storms out on the girl. Frustrated and saddened by the fight, she decides to take a selfie and post it online. Unsurprisingly enough for a girl of that sort of beauty, she is immediately showered with 'likes' and flattering comments from a flood of men. Cheered up by the affection she's receiving now that she's on her own, she takes yet more photos, but soon enough the likes begin to dwindle to almost nothing. After a fake 'pre-gym' shot boosts her likes back up again, the pictures she takes get gradually racier until she's finally in just her underwear. The song has a catchy rhythm, a classic R&B vibe and soft rap vocals that add a poignant sense of melancholy to the track.
Directed by Matthew Walker, the visual aims to highlight the unhealthy obsession that many young people have with receiving compliments from people they've never met over social media. He has teamed up which another Island artist on the song and collaborates with several others on his 'Four Miles Further' EP including George The Poet, Max Marshall and Naomi Scott.
