Simon Cowell has addressed rumours about the longevity of One Direction’s planned ‘break’ in 2016.
Simon Cowell has addressed rumours that One Direction are permanently splitting up. The boy band, which is down to four members after the departure of Zayn Malik in March, devastated their fans earlier this week when they announced they plan to take a temporary break.
One Direction are taking a break next March.

The band are reportedly taking a hiatus for a year from March 2016.
One Direction fans have been going into panic mode since Monday, when the news broke that the boyband were planning to go on a year long hiatus starting next March. But while the band had initially stayed quiet on the reports, three members have now taken to twitter to try and assure fans this is not the end.
One Direction will be taking a break sometime next year.
‘Ok so Lots of rumours going round. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year,’ Niall Horan wrote on twitter. ‘Don't worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve! Can’t wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform,’ the 21 year old added.

The 1D boys have agreed to take a hiatus of at least a year to pursue solo projects, starting in March.
Take a deep breath, Directioners, they're not officially splitting up - and this apparently has nothing to do with Zayn Malik's departure from the band. Today it was revealed that Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have agreed to an extended break of at least 12 months, starting in March 2016, to pursue solo projects.
The 1D boys are going in different directions
The Sun reveals the boys have decided not to take the opportunity to tour after the Christmas release of their fifth album, and will instead temporarily disband, leaving each of them free to pursue other avenues.

‘Drag Me Down’ is the boyband’s first video since Zayn Malik’s exit.
One Direction have released their new video for single ‘Drag Me Down’ and let’s just say it’s out if this world! The video shows Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis inside the NASA Space Centre in Houston, Texas fooling around and being put through their paces before blasting off into outer space.
One Direction have released the video for single ‘Drag Me Down’
The video dropped on Friday (August) 21st and is the group’s first as a foursome following the departure of Zayn Malik earlier this year. The promo was an instant hit among the boyband’s ever loyal fans who had #DragMeDownVideo trending worldwide on twitter within hours of the clip hitting.

Niall was speaking to Scott Mills on Radio 1 breakfast
There are some things that people should never joke about - one of which is Zayn leaving One Direction, especially to an existing member of the band. Unfortunately, for Radio 1 breakfast fill-in host, Scott Mills, that is exactly the topic he brought up when talking to Niall from the band this morning.
Niall was put on the spot when Scott Mills spoke to him about Zayn
Scott was speaking to 1D’s Niall on the show and went to a place that no One Directioner wanted him to go when he said of Zayn: "You didn’t need that other guy."

One Direction have just released their first single as a four piece and ex member Zayn is proud of his former bandmates.
Former One Direction member Zayn Malik has proved once and for all there’s no bad blood between him and his former bandmates. The singer, who left the group earlier this year, took to Twitter on Saturday to congratulate his former bandmates on their first single since his departure, 'Drag Me Down'.
Zayn Malik has shown his support for One Direction’s new single.
The group unexpectedly released ‘Drag Me Down’ on Thursday, with band member Liam Payne tweeting, ‘Bit of a surprise ! Check out our new single! It’s called Drag Me Down & I hope you love it as much as we do.’ The track then climbed to the top of the charts on iTunes and Spotify just hours after it’s shock release.
'Drag Me Down' appeared early on Friday morning, and with no radio airplay or promotion ahead of its release, it still reached the top of the iTunes and Spotify charts in double-quick time.
Just a day after Zayn Malik said that he had left them to make “#realmusic”, One Direction are showing that life continues without him as they dropped their first single as a quartet on Friday morning, entitled ‘Drag Me Down’.
The single made a surprise appearance on the iTunes store and Spotify at around 6:30am on Friday (July 31st), followed by its radio debut on BBC Radio 1 a couple of hours later. 1D’s Liam Payne also tweeted a link to the iTunes store, saying “Bit of a surprise! Check out our new single! It’s called ‘Drag Me Down’ & I hope you love it as much as we do.”

Grande is fed up with questions about her personal life and she’s letting the world know.
Singer Ariana Grande won the internet this weekend, when she hit out against the media’s double standards by posting a lengthly feminist message on Instagram. The singer, who recently split from rapper Big Sean, has had to deal with being repeatedly asked about her love life in recent interviews, as well as rumours she’s now dating One Direction’s Niall Horan.
Ariana Grande has unleashed some serious truths on social media.
In a recent interview with The Sun newspaper the 21 year old had said, "A girl can be friends with someone with a d--- and not hop on it." Adding, “I'm tired of needing to be linked to a guy, I'm not Big Sean's ex, I'm not Niall's new possible girl. I'm Ariana Grande."

Liam Payne has reassured fans that he and the boys are not going anywhere following Zayn Malik's exit.
"Let's go crazy, crazy, crazy..." because Liam Payne says One Direction are here to stay. Speaking backstage at Capital's Summertime Ball with Vodafone at London's Wembley Stadium yesterday (June 6), Liam addressed rumours of the phenomenally successful boy band's imminent split, saying, "We don't know where that came from because we've got loads of stuff going on."
Right direction: Liam says the band aren't going anywhere
"We have just started the process for recording the new album, we've got a whole new tour going on, there are some really good songs so I don't think we are going anywhere for a while."

Ellie Goulding may have been on a ‘few dates’ with One Direction’s Niall Horan but she was never romantically involved with Ed Sheeran.
Ellie Goulding has confirmed and denied a few relationship rumours we’ve been curious to know are true or false for some time. The 28-year-old singer is currently in a relationship with McFly band member Dougie Poynter and she couldn’t be happier. However, she wanted to set the record straight when it came to her ‘relationship’ with a certain pop star.
Ellie Goulding and Dougie Poynter have been dating since early this year.

All it took was one very 'naughty boy' to start a boyband Twitter fight of epic proportions.
Mayweather vs Pacquiao might have been billed as the fight of the century last weekend, but don’t underestimate the drama which can occur when a former boyband member, his producer and his ex-bandmate get into a twitter spat. Yes just over a month after One Direction went from five to four, it appears the gloves are well and truly off between former member Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.
Zayn announced his departure from the boyband back in March.
It all started on Wednesday afternoon, when producer Naughty Boy, who’s been working with Zayn on solo material, tweeted an pic of the pair using an image filter along with the caption, ‘Replace this’.
Don't worry, Directioners, the show must go on.
First they were afraid, they were petrified, kept thinking they could never live without him by their side... but One Direction seem to have moved on from Zayn Malik’s departure fairly quickly. So says Niall Horan, in a series of tweets which revealed that the band is already planning a return to the studio.
One Direction are now going in separate directions.
He wrote: "Had a sit down last night with the label, started organising our writing sessions for the next album! F**k yeaaaahhhh! Can't wait!"

The 1D star is annoyed at the BBC show for continually criticising 'The X Factor'.
One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson is tired of ‘The Voice’ continually slagging off ‘The X Factor’. Ahead of the BBC’s flagship talent contest making its reappearance this Saturday (January 10th), the boyband member suggested that there wasn’t even a contest between the two programmes.
The 23 year old star aired his grievances on Twitter, where he vented: “Is bad mouthing The X Factor the only way The Voice knows how to promo their show? #everyyear.” Later, he said: "it's like Accrington Stanley trying to compete with Real Madrid.”

Will the world's cutest chimpanzee make you watch One Direction's new video?
We never thought we'd be going 'Awwwwww!' while looking at pictures of One Direction, but the hairy co-star of their forthcoming new music video 'Steal My Girl' is killing us with unwavering cuteness. Those easily overwhelmed, look away now.
It was surprising, not to mention mildly amusing, when it was announced that Danny DeVito would be making an appearance in the video - it made us, admittedly, a little bit curious. But now that we've seen the other special guest on the set, a sunglasses-wearing chimpanzee, we're eager to see him in action.
Things got out of hand when 1D performed in Amsterdam last night.
One Direction’s Niall Horan reached out to fans on Twitter yesterday with a very important plea – stop throwing things onstage. The concept, which may be obvious to some, was clearly unfamiliar to attendees at 1D’s gig in Amsterdam on June 25, during which the 1D guys got pelted with a number of objects thrown by fans. Niall, who went through unspecified “major knee surgery” back in January, is still recovering.
Love hurts sometimes, especially if you're an international pop star.
He made sure to keep his tone as pleasant as a boy band singer has to be, but still told off the rowdy fans – in his own way.

Once again, One Direction have become front page news, but do people really find their recent drugs 'scandal' shocking?
Being caught with a joint is really nothing new in the world of pop, especially amongst those aggressively seeking a change of image that will subsequently add a semblance of ‘edge’ to their persona. For child stars especially, in attempts to free themselves from their enforced clean-cut youth and iconic childhood roles, to indulge in the smoking of marijuana is the go-to method of both distancing oneself from the past and declaring oneself as a fully independent adult.
The group have come under fire from the tabloids for Zayn and Louis' actions.
The celebrity world abounds with examples of such exploits. Remember the media storm over Justin Bieber’s incident with a “suspicious cigarette” or Miley Cyrus’ bong exploits, which have now evolved into her free and consistent utilization of marijuana symbolism? The celebrity media loves a scandal more than a Republican loves his right to bear firearms, but whilst the current One Direction drug ‘scandal’ has rather predictably been plastered all over the tabloid’s front pages, the majority of the public greets it with a collective shrug of the shoulders. They are, after all, adolescents- the prime age for indulging in experimentation with illicit substances and activities. Most adults will have indulged in similar instances of experimentation with an array substances at a similar age to these patchy-bearded pop stars. In terms of the pop world, this particular act has been seen many times before; so many times, in fact, that the whole ‘rebellion’ phase is part and parcel of the child actor discourse. Some take it just a little too far, and the ensuing descent into drugs has unfortunately claimed the lives of many of Hollywood’s exploited youngsters.
The One Direction popster is feeling a little fragile right now.
Niall Horan has asked for privacy after undergoing knee surgery that he claims was "much larger than anticipated." The One Direction singer was pictured last week walking on crutches with a large cast on his knee after arriving at Heathrow airport. Naturally, at the sight of the surprising new snaps, Horan's avid fans took to Twitter to demand to know what was what going on.
Niall Horan Has Asked For Privacy After Undergoing Knee Surgery.
The 20 year-old reassured his fans and let them in on what was going on: "Hey guys I know most of you have seen those pics today! Yes I've had major knee surgery , a much larger surgery than first anticipated , But i would like to tell u , it was a complete success ! Considering the scale of it!" he tweeted. "So all I ask of you guys is that you would respect my Privacy as I try to recover and get for the where we are tour!" Niall wrote, prompting a stream of support from his followers.

The French music community said "non!" to the boys at the 15th NRJ Awards
One Direction were booed as they took to the stage at the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France, last week (14 Dec.). Anchorman meets One Direction hysteria: what could possibly go wrong?
Paul Rudd kicked off his third go at hosting NBC's Saturday Night Live by ensuring that every 15 year-old pop music fangirl in the country was watching as he recited an opening monologue whilst being flanked by boyband One Direction. Rudd lamented that he had been overshadowed by previous musical guests Beyoncé and Paul McCartney only to be upstaged once again by the British fivesome.
[L-R] Carell, Rudd, Koechner & Ferrell Brought The 'Anchorman' Machine To 'SNL.'
"Don't worry Paul, we're not here to outshine you," Harry Styles reassured him. "Yeah, you do the comedy stuff and we'll stand back and blow kisses," Niall Horan added as the rest of the band looked on, presumably fighting back laughter.
The 1D star wrote "I love you, will you marry me?" following Perry's 'X Factor' performance over the weekend
One Direction's Niall Horan has a bevy of female fans that would jump at the chance just to share the same air as him, but the Irish boyband star only has one girl on his mind; Katy Perry. Following Perry's Saturday night (19 October) performance on The X Factor, Horan was so overwhelmed with the buxom singer that he was compelled to profess his love of the 'Roar' hit maker.
Niall has a thing for Katy, and isn't afraid to let her know
"I love you @katyperry! Thank you! Ps. Will u marry me?" the 20-year-old joked in his tweet. So far, Perry hasn't replied to the initial tweet, but maybe she's just being coy.
Have the 1D boys delivered the "rockier" sound they promised on their new album? No, not really
Have the One Direction boys suddenly decided to commemorate Lady Diana, the People's Princess, to coincide with the release of the Naomi Watts-starring film, Diana? Unlikely, but the leak does seem to be rather well-timed.
A new One Direction Song Has Been Leaked.
The band have just landed in Australia for the down-under section of their tour after the recent box office success of their on the road documentary movie, This Is Us. The band may be strapped aboard a skyrocket to fame and fortune, but this didn't stop their new single 'Diana' being leaked over the weekend.

Filmmaker Spurlock (Super Size Me) is known for his investigative wit, but there's none of that in this on-message doc about the most successful boy band in history. Still, the fans won't be able to get enough of the backstage antics and lively performance clips. And those unfamiliar with One Direction will have fun too. Just don't expect to learn much about these five young men who continually say, "Back when we were little," even though they're still only 19-21 years old.
The filmmakers follow Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry and Louis on their world tour, visiting four continents as they play nearly 130 concerts for their hysterical fans, who all seem to be pre-teen girls. As we see them larking around on-stage, in the wings and on their tour bus, we also get their back-story, as they auditioned individually for The X Factor in 2010 and were assembled as a group in a spontaneous decision by Cowell. Their global success is the result of a viral Twitter onslaught, and the fans also get their say on-screen, gushing with their love for these five skinny, mop-haired guys who have serious vocal talents but have yet to prove themselves as musicians.
While the film captures the boys' strong camaraderie, cheeky energy and constant pranks (including silly Jackass-style closing-credits clips), we never really learn much about them. There is no attempt to explore their off-stage identities, what they do in their down-time, their romantic lives or musical inspirations. Some depth is provided in interviews with their parents, who offer emotional insight into how fame has changed their families. Aside from some lively off-handed moments, their interviews feel carefully media-trained, and there's no commentary from anyone outside their inner circle. But they emerge as grounded, likeable young guys who know how lucky they are, so they're making the most of their success in the short time they have at the top.

The two singers hooked up to sing a version of Goulding's track during Swift's recent sold-out performance at LA's Staple's Centre
As Taylor Swift continues her Red tour up and down the United States, so does her newfound tradition of bringing a little help on stage to treat her fans. As the Friday (August 23) show at the Staples Centre was drawing to an end, Taylor began introducing the Brit star to the unsuspecting audience. Previously during her tour, Swift has shared the stage with Carly Simon, indie duo Tegan & Sara and UK artist Cher Lloyd, and it's looking as though she has no plans to quit this Red-tradition any time soon.

The One Direction singer had to battle a sore throat during a recent performance and has only gotten worse since then
Niall Horan has forced to battle his way through a recent One Direction concert in Denver, Colorado, earlier this week and ended up feeling even worse for his efforts as he struggled to sleep on Wednesday (24 July) night. The 19-year-old took to Twitter to voice his displeasures at feeling "sh*t," before treating fans to an impromptu Q&A about the band's new music video for the new single 'Best Song Ever.'
Horan has hopefully gotten better since his Twitter moan
The 1D star chatted with fans early on Thursday (25 July) morning about their favourite parts of the band's new video, before going on a mass cleaning session and doing some more promo shout-outs for the new single. After staying quiet all day Friday, he was back online by Saturday to promote the band's performance in Vancouver and judging by the tone he adopted for Saturday's Tweets, he seems to have gotten better.

Do the individual publishing deals suggest the boys are thinking about life after One Direction?
Ah, we was wondering when this was going to happen. One Direction have added a couple more million to their bank accounts, though this time they're thinking for themselves. Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne have signed SEPARATE publishing deals to cash in on all songs they have credits for writing.
It's a clear sign that the boys are beginning to look after their own interests following the phenomenal success of their first couple of years in the industry. The publishing deals are being overseen by Fingate, the company who also cash in on Elvis Presley's back catalogue as well as work by Britney Spears, Black Eyed Peas and Foo Fighters.
A source said: "This is a real statement of intent from the band. They have absolutely no intention of being spoon-fed pop puppets. They want to write and they want to earn as individuals." As well as the new deals, each of the five members have also invested in their own studio set-ups at home and have been attending writing sessions together after gigs. On their latest record Take Me Home, the band had three songs with individual writing credits while the others were penned by outsider songwriters. The group did not have a hand in writing the three biggest hits from the album, Live While We're Young, Kiss You and Little Things.

Niall Horan has apparently settled down with fellow Irish girl Zoe Whelan.
Niall Horan has gone and broken the little hearts of many, many One Direction fans this week, by hooking up with Irish model Zoe Whelan. The 19-year-old is said to have met Zoe backstage at one of the group's concerts and has been dating her for a number of months, according to The Sun.
"Niall has been secretly seeing Zoe for a couple of months after he met her backstage," an insider revealed. "She's a Dubliner but is based in London to work on her modelling career. Zoe's travelled all over the UK to meet up with Niall on the band's tour." Things appear to have got serious between the pair, and Horan took Zoe to meet the rest of his family at the wedding of his brother Greg in their hometown of Mullingar last month. "The biggest sign he's really serious about her is that he introduced her to his whole family at his brother's wedding," the insider added, "Zoe's the first girlfriend Niall has brought back to his hometown of Mullingar since making it big, so it was a big deal and the talk of his family at the wedding."
Niall is the latest One Direction member to enter into a serious relationship. Liam and Louis are thought to have steady girlfriends, though Zayn is on-and-off with Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards. Harry Styles is, well, Harry Styles.
