Zuckerberg Chan Wedding: Green Day Singer Performs21 May 2012
Mark Zuckerberg and his college sweetheart Priscilla Chan sprung a surprise over the weekend, by announcing they had married in a low-key ceremony. The wedding announcement came in classic Facebook style, with Zuckerberg simply updating his status to read, "Married Priscilla Chan" - the news gathering 1 million "likes" in no time.
Zuckerberg and Chan managed to keep the news under wraps by inviting just 100 guests, though there was a twist. Those partygoers thought they were arriving for a surprise graduation party for Chan (she left medical school last Monday), though the guests were stunned to find they had arrived at the couple's wedding, which they had been planning for months, according to the Associated Press. The fact that the nuptials came just one day after Facebook debuted on the stock market was purely coincidental. The ceremony took place in the newlyweds' backyard in Palo Alto, California, with the bride wearing a traditional white gown with lace overlay, and Zuckerberg opting for a navy suit. According to the Mercury News, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong sang at the reception, while the couple's two favorite restaurants, Palo Alta Sol and Fuki Sushi provided the catering.
The "surprise party" tactic was adopted by Julia Roberts for her Fourth of July marriage to Danny Moder in 2004, and ensues details of the wedding are not leaked to the press beforehand.
