The 95-year-old actress has been suffering ill health for several years, and her longtime husband has put their sprawling Californian property up for sale for $14.9 million (£9.3 million) after admitting the house is too big to manage.

However, the pair has defaulted on its $700,000 (£437,000) mortgage, and face foreclosure if payments are not brought up to date, according to Tmz.com.

The website reports Von Anhalt recently took to his Facebook.com site to bemoan his financial situation, which prompted fans to offer to help.

One follower went further and helped him secure the loan to pay off the mortgage, but Von Anhalt reportedly has only 12 months to pay it back in full.
