Acclaimed Russian satire writer ALEXANDER ZINOVYEV died of brain cancer yesterday (10MAY06). He was 83. The author and philosopher, whose works include masterpieces THE YAWNING HEIGHTS and HOMO SOVETICUS, will lie in state at Moscow State University to allow admirers to pay their final respects, before being buried on Monday (15MAY06). Despite being exiled from his homeland for over 20 years after staunchly criticising Russian politics, Zinovyev returned in 1999 and spent his final years lecturing university students.
