Zimmers Set For Top 20 With Who Cover

by | 03 June 2007

A group of old-aged pensioners are set to crash into the top 20 of the UK charts with a cover of the Who's My Generation.

The Zimmers, who feature a singer over 90 years old, recorded the cover to show that senior citizens can still rock and Gennaro Castaldo from HMV believes it should be enough to earn them a chart hit.

"The Zimmers' cover of the Who's iconic My Generation is showing signs of a top 20 debut," Mr Castaldo said, adding that Rihanna featuring Jay-Z looked likely to hold on to the number one spot.

Two classic acts are also in the running for chart comeback, with David Bowie's Life on Mars likely to enter the top 100 after download sales off the back of the BBC's Seven Ages of Rock programme.

In addition, the 40th anniversary of the Beatles classic album Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club could also be heading back into the charts.

Mr Castaldo said: "In light of the 40th anniversary of the Beatles Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band HMV is prominently merchandising the classic album, and it will be interesting to see if all the publicity around this event helps the album get back into the charts."

In other album news, the debut effort from the Pigeon Detectives looks like achieving a top three position.
