Zeppelin Tour 'Confirmed'

by | 21 November 2007

Fans that missed out on a ticket for Led Zeppelin's long-awaited reunion concert could be in luck - it looks like rumours of a 2008 tour are true.

Though the reformed rockers have brushed aside questions about a full-scale reunion tour, the band is likely to play as their tour support have revealed a series of concerts have been planned for next year.

Ian Astbury, lead singer of the Cult, has hinted that his band is to support Zeppelin on a tour, according to Billboard.com.

While playing a show in Cincinnati last week, Astbury reportedly said: "We'll be back next year, because we're opening for a band you may have heard of. The name starts with an L and has a Z in it."

And when an audience member shouted "Led Zeppelin", the Cult frontman nodded and raised his arm triumphantly in the air.

The 70s legends themselves have not yet announced any details of a new tour, with guitarist Jimmy Page yesterday telling Reuters: "Let's just do the O2 and we'll see what happens from there. I haven't got a crystal ball here and nor have you."

However he has admitted the popularity of the reunion gig - some 20 million people registered for the December 10th charity concert at London's O2 Arena - may inspire a full tour.

Talking to Blabbermouth last week, Page said: "It's a bit silly not to [tour] because there is such massive demand... It's a bit selfish to do just one show."

He added: "If that's it, we probably shouldn't have taken the genie out of the bottle."

The December 10th gig is being held to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund - set up in honour of the late founder of Atlantic Records - which pays for university scholarships in the UK, US and Turkey.
