Yves Saint Laurent Suffers Backlash Over New Logo

YVES SAINT LAURENT has suffered a backlash against its new logo.

The French fashion house unveiled its logo - bold white capitalised text reading just Saint Laurent over a black background - on the internet earlier this week, but it has proved controversial among fans.

Writing on Facebook Chris Dickman said: ''Hard to believe such a poor decision has been made, which can only damage the brand.''

The logo has prompted over 3,000 fans to press the social media application's 'Like' button, but some seem upset that the logo is too plain.

Molly McGlew added: ''This is so boring and genuinely disappointing.''

Creative director Hedi Slimane announced in June The Fashion house would be dropping 'Yves' from its name for its ready to wear range.

Defending the decision, Nick Byrne wrote: ''What Hedi proposes is both new and old, looking forward but with respect for the old. YSL and the full name in the same script were only used for Haute Couture.

''The ready-to-wear used the same typeface which Hedi has proposed.''

All products outside of the label's ready-to-wear line will continue to carry the iconic YSL logo, which was designed by Adolphe Mouron Cassandre in 1963.
