Rudy Vallee - Young Andy Warhol's Rudy Vallee Portrait Worth $2 Million

05 April 2012
A portrait of singer Rudy Vallee painted by a young Andy Warhol has just been valued at $2 million (£1.25 million)

English businessman Andy Fields picked up the art piece for just $5 (£3) at a garage sale in Las Vegas and, intrigued by the portrait, he decided to have it checked out after learning it once belonged to a woman who was Warhol's babysitter.

Historians claim the artwork was probably created by Warhol when the late culture icon was 11, while he was laid up with cholera.

Fields insists he has no plans to sell the Vallee portrait, but he is calling for museum bosses to approach him.

He tells the Toronto Star, "It should be seen by the public."

Vallee died in 1986, a year before Warhol passed away at the age of 58.
