John Lennon's widow is in her native country to receive an award for her charity work and promote tourism in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami disaster which claimed more than 15,000 lives in March (11).
And she took time out on Friday (29Jul11) to visit the cenotaph in Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park to lay a wreath at the monument in honour of the city's war dead.
An estimated 166,000 people were killed when the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945, forcing Japan to surrender and bringing about the end of World War II.
