Producer Ryan Murphy has scored a major coup for his hit U.S. Tv show The New Normal after landing the rights to use John Lennon's highly personal track Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) in the upcoming season finale.

The Glee creator reveals he reached out to Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, who owns the rights to The Beatles icon's back catalogue, in the hope of using the touching tune on Tv - and he was stunned at how easy the whole process was, considering how selective Ono is about the projects she approves.

During a panel talk with the show's cast and crew at Los Angeles' Paley Fest, Murphy said, "We reached out to Yoko Ono to get permission to use that song for an entire act with no dialogue and she said yes."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the song, in which Lennon passionately expresses the love he has for his son Sean, will feature in the season one finale of The New Normal, about a gay couple which hires a surrogate in a bid to become fathers.

The episode is due to air in the U.S. in April (13).
