Yoko Ono - Yoko Ono And George Takei Urge Help For Fellow Japanese
Japanese artist/musician Yoko Ono and Star Trek actor George Takei have urged fans to support relief efforts in Japan following the devastating earthquake in the region.
Hundreds were killed when a tsunami, sparked by the 8.9-magnitude tremor, hit the country's east coast on Friday (11Mar11), ripping up homes and office buildings and leaving chaos in its wake.
Now Ono and Takei - who is of Japanese descent - have reached out to their fans to show support for victims of the disaster.
John Lennon's widow Ono took to her Twitter.com blog to post a link to a 'people finder' to help worried families track down their loved ones, adding: "Sending love to all friends & family in Japan & praying for you. We are with you. Let's help one another as much as we can love, Yoko."
Takei posted a contact number for the Red Cross and urged fans to donate $10 (£6.66) to the relief efforts.
He writes, "Offer prayer and Help to quake and tsunami victims in Japan. Text Redcross to 90999 to donate $10... Today we are all Japanese. Give $10 to help."
