Yari Loses Crash Battle
28 December 2006Filmmaker Yari filed suit against AMPAS and PGA on 1 March (06), claiming the organisations had unlawfully denied him a producer's credit on the Oscar-winning racial drama, thereby preventing him from receiving "the ultimate professional acclaim, and the accompanying creative and economic benefits, to which his labours entitle him".
Writer/director Paul Haggis and fellow producer Cathy Schulman picked up the Academy Award for Best Film at the Oscars this year (06).
Yari has always insisted he was one of the first producers to start financing the film, which starred Matt Dillon, Don Cheadle and Thandie Newton, among others.
However, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge dismissed the case on Tuesday (26DEC06).
Yari's lawyers have been given 10 days to resubmit their claims and they insist they will.
His attorney PATTY GLASER said, "My client has always felt he's right on the merits."
