X-men Illustrator Dies
X-MEN illustrator DAVE COCKRUM has died from complications of diabetes. He was 63.
Cockrum reinvented the comic franchise in the mid-1970s by introducing a host of new characters and overhauling the entire look of the cartoons with wide shoulder lapels, big belts and buccaneer boots.
His depiction of WOLVERINE is set to feature on a postage stamp next year (07).
Cockrum retained his enthusiasm for comic book heroes until the end - dying at home wearing SUPERMAN pyjamas in a BATMAN duvet on Sunday (26NOV06).
He is survived by his wife PATY, his son IVAN SEAN, and his stepsons LAUREN and PHILIP GREER.
