Writer/filmmaker Robbe-grillet Dies
18 February 2008Robbe-Grillet was taken to the Caen University Hospital in Caen, France over the weekend (16-17Feb08) to receive treatment for cardiac problems. He passed away on Monday (18Feb08) morning.
Robbe-Grillet is best known for pioneering the "new novel" genre in the 1950s, a movement that threw out traditional literary conventions, including punctuation, narrative and character development.
Among his highest regarded books are Les Gommes and La Jalousie.
Robbe-Grillet went on to write screenplays including Last Year At Marienbad. He also directed movies such as L'Immortelle, Trans-Europ-Express and Eden And After.
