Wreck-it Beset By Wreckage
ox office pundits are predicting that Disney's Wreck-It Ralph will become a smash this weekend. But they're hedging their predictions for the box office as a whole given widespread power outages and theater damage still plaguing much of the East Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Based on earlier tracking, the animated 3D movie with a videogame theme should pound everything else in sight with around $45-50 million. Two other films are opening wide this weekend (although each in fewer than 2,000 theaters), arriving just under the wire to avoid next weekend's onslaught of Skyfall, the latest James Bond blockbuster. Likely to debut in second place is Paramount's Flight, starring Denzel Washington, director Robert Zemeckis's first live-action film in 12 years. The film, which cost $31 million to produce, is likely to take in $12-15 million, according to forecasts. Also opening this weekend is Universal's low-budget ($15 million) The Man with the Iron Fists, which is predicted to earn around $7-10 million.
