Woodruff Foundation To Present Afghanistan Plays
The BOB WOODRUFF Foundation, set up by the ABC News Anchorman who was seriously injured while covering the war in Iraq, is teaming up with the British Council to screen a 7-hour three part play, The Great Game , to military personnel at the Pentagon. The play, created by Kilburn's Tricycle Theatre in London, traces the history of Afghanistan. General Sir David Richards, Britain's most prominent military figure, said in an interview with The Guardian newspaper, "This series of plays -- if I had seen it before I had deployed myself in 2005 for the first time -- would have made me a much better commander." Woodruff Foundation's executive director Rene Bardorf told the Washington Post that military personnel who were injured in Iraq and Afghanistan will be invited to see the production. René Bardorf, executive director of the Bob Woodruff Foundation, said in a statement, "Through this theatrical interpretation of the historical dynamics that have shaped the complex cultural influences and traditions of Afghanistan, it is the Bob Woodruff Foundation's intent to have attendees engage in a dialogue about strategy, policy, and education of the public in order to ensure lifelong tangible support for our military families, who have borne the physical and psychological wounds of war."
