Wonder Hands Eavis Special Glastonbury Gift
STEVIE WONDER marked Glastonbury's 40th year as he closed the event on Sunday (27Jun10) by handing organiser MICHAEL EAVIS a special gift.
The Superstition hitmaker headlined the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm in Somerset, south-west England, drawing the weekend-long event to a close.
And the singer decided to hand out a special harmonica to Eavis onstage during his closing set at the festival to mark the event's 40 years.
Wonder handed the same gift to U.S. President Barack Obama at his inauguration ceremony last year (09) and he gave the same token to Sir Paul MCCartney earlier this month (Jun10) as he accepted the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress at the White House.
Wonder called Eavis on to the stage and belted out his hit song Happy Birthday, before honouring him with the special present.
He said, "Michael, I want you to always remember me. I gave one of these to the President Barack Obama. Here's one for you. Here you go. It's yours, keep it, remember Stevie. I love you. I love what you're doing for the people, bringing people together. God bless you... Happy birthday!"
