'The Wolverine' Gets All Dolled Up For New Movie - Claws And Everything

It’s not unusual for superheroes to undergo the occasional makeover, especially in film adaptations and such is the case with the brand new, grittier look of Wolverine. The former (future?) X-Men member will get his second solo movie later this month and he’s dressed for the occasion. If you consider terrifying retractable claws “dressing up”, that is. But the claws… sorry, talons themselves, are different.

Check out the Wolverine's new claws in the trailer below.

“Yes, we retooled them a little,” The Wolverine director James Mangold said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I found that in some of the comics illustrations that I really liked the most, they had these bevel cuts. They were faceted, that would be the best way to describe them. In the last picture, they were pretty smooth, and we decided to take it to a different direction.”

Jackman might be ageing, but his character only gets better with each movie.

The new talons are part of a general overhaul of Wolverine’s appearance and his style. Mangold explains that he was going for a more realisting, less theatrical Logan. And here we thought that brooding, realistinc superheroes (that might be an oxymoron) were the exclusive domain of Warner Bros. and DC Comics. It looks like Wolverine is going the way of The Dark Knight and Man of Steel. Admittedly, that’s a gutsy move from the folks over at Fox – after all, Wolverine sports a bright yellow and black suit in the comic books. The character isn’t all that heavy on the realism.

But boy, does that makeover sound cool. Mangold explained further: “It’s more utilitarian,” the director said. “The cuts in the blades make them more useful, more lethal, and they also catch the light more and in interesting ways.” Now that’s definitely worth seeing.

We can smell of summer blockbuster already.
