Winkler + Glaser Star In Rival Pantomimes

Seventies U.S. TV superstars HENRY WINKLER and PAUL MICHAEL GLASER have gone head-to-head onstage in Britain, playing the same character in rival pantomime productions. Winkler, better known as The Fonz in Happy Days, and Starsky + Hutch actor Glaser are both starring as Captain Hook in two different Peter Pan Christmas shows. Winkler is performing at the Victoria Theatre in Woking, Surrey, while Glaser is treading the boards of the Churchill Theatre in the London suburb of Bromley. Glaser says, "I like to play silly and Captain Hook is such a wonderful baddie. "It's great that Britain has this tradition of pantomime. It's great that that audience participation - which is at least as old as Shakespeare - still continues here today." Winkler adds, "Here (in the U.K.), there is an audience of nearly 2,000 all screaming and yelling. The Americans don't understand the phenomenal give and take, the phenomenal interaction."
