Winfrey To Receive Producers Award
OPRAH WINFREY is to be honoured for her work as a producer on DENZEL WASHINGTON movie THE GREAT DEBATERS. The U.S. chat show host is among a group of four producers who will all receive the 2008 Stanley Kramer Award from the Producers Guild of America (PGA) for using the film to highlight social issues. The movie, which also starred Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, told the story of a teacher who helped a group of African American students form an elite debate team against all odds. Winfrey's fellow producer Kate Forte says, "Oprah and I are very proud of this film and honoured to receive the PGA's Stanley Kramer Award. The Great Debaters has been a labour of love and we are grateful to be recognized in this way." Previous winners of the accolade include 2004's Hotel Rwanda and the George Clooney-directed Good Night, And Good Luck in 2005. The award will be presented at a ceremony in Los Angeles on 2 February (08).
