Amy Winehouse - Winehouse's Dad Urges U.k. Officials To Help Fund Rehab Charity

Amy Winehouse's father called on British officials to help fund his plans for a charity in the tragic star's memory at a meeting in London on Monday (01Aug11).
Following the death of the singer last month (23Jul11), Mitch Winehouse announced he wanted to create the Amy Winehouse Foundation to provide help and support for those with ongoing addiction problems.
The Back To Black hitmaker's dad headed to London's Parliament for a meeting with Keith Vaz MP (Member of Parliament) and Minister for Crime and Security James Brokenshire to present his plans for the charity and urged the government to assist financially.
He said, "I want to involve myself in things that would have been important to Amy. That is why we are going to be setting up the Amy Winehouse Foundation. This isn't only important to me, this is important to our whole country.
"There (are) hundreds of thousands of young people in situations today that could be avoided, and these are our future policemen, doctors and lawyers and solicitors, that we could help. We need to be able to help our children.
"This isn't about Amy, because we were in a fortunate position of being able to fund Amy to go into private rehab. This is about people that can't afford it.
"Rather than money being wasted through the criminal justice system, there could be a reallocation of funds. We need to be able to help our children."
Addiction expert Sarah Graham, an adviser for the foundation, also attended the meeting and added, "We are looking at how we can fund a rehab in Amy's name but we don't think the foundation should pay for it. If we build something, we need the Government to commit to pay for the beds long-term."
