Winehouse's Back To Black Dress Sold For Charity
Disaya Sorakraikitikul, the designer of the printed white chiffon gown, put the dress up for sale to raise funds for the charity foundation set up in the singer's name.
The dress was expected to fetch up to $32,000 (£20,000) when it went under the hammer at London's La Galleria on Tuesday (29Nov11), but interest in the lot was higher than anticipated and bids soared way past the estimate, much to the delight of the late star's father, Mitch Winehouse.
In a post on his Twitter.com blog, he writes, "We raised £36,000 for Amy's back 2 black dress. Lots of kids will benefit."
The singer's father launched the Amy Winehouse Foundation to benefit organisations supporting vulnerable young people following the star's tragic death in July (11).
