Winehouse Up For Six Grammys

by | 07 December 2007

British vocalist Amy Winehouse is one of the leading candidates at the 50th Grammy awards after being nominated in six categories.

The prestigious list of nominees is headed by US rapper Kanye West, who has been named in eight categories including album of the year for Graduation.

Winehouse's Back to Black is nominated in the same section, while the troubled singer also received nods for Rehab as song of the year – for composition - and record of the year.

A number of other acts, including rock band Foo Fighters, rapper Jay-Z, pop singer Justin Timberlake, R&B star T-Pain and producer Timbaland, have all been nominated for five awards.

Rihanna, who scored arguably the most popular hit of 2007 with number one song Umbrella, is also featured in the record of the year category.

Winehouse's nominations come as good news for the singer, who has endured an otherwise miserable end to the last 12 months.

She called off her most recent list of gigs because of personal problems that had resulted in a number of low-key and disappointing live performances.

Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is currently remanded in custody accused of perverting the course of justice.

Star rapper West has also endured a difficult time of late after the death of his mother, although he has vowed to continue his current tour.
