Winehouse Scoops Ivor Novello

by | 25 May 2007

Amy Winehouse picked up an Ivor Novello award last night for her song Rehab, which takes a cheeky swipe at those who put pressure on the singer to take some time out.

While collecting her award Winehouse joked: "Thank you all very much, I didn't even have time to get drunk, I've only been here about 15 minutes."

Rehab won the best contemporary song award and is the second Ivor that Winehouse has picked up after winning for her song Stronger Than Me.

Other winners included Scott Matthews, a solo folk singer who picked up the best song award for his track Elusive.

The song is featured on Matthews' critically acclaimed album Passing Stranger, which will be re-released to coincide with his Ivor Novello win.

The singer beat Arctic Monkeys and Robbie Williams in the best song category, after the pop star was nominated for his song Rudebox.

It wasn't a bad night for the Monkeys though, who still managed to walk away with the best album award for Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.

Elton John and Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters were also recognised for their track I Don't Feel Like Dancin'. The pair co-wrote the song and it won the most performed work award.

Pop superstar Madonna also won an award for her track Sorry, taken from her latest album Confessions on a Dancefloor.

Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, was given an outstanding contribution to music award and Peter Gabriel picked up a lifetime achievement gong.

Quincy Jones was awarded a special international gong and Yusuf Islam picked up the outstanding song collection award.
