Winehouse Hotel Room 'Searched For Drugs'

by | 03 September 2007

Controversial singer Amy Winehouse's hotel room was subject to daily drug searches by concerned staff in the Caribbean, it has been claimed.

According to the Sun the 23-year-old's suite at Jade Mountain, St Lucia, was searched every day while she and husband Blake Fielder-Civil stayed there last month, although no drugs are thought to have been found.

The claim comes after Winehouse pulled out of a host of festivals and planned appearances due to apparent drug abuse, although her record company Universal Records said that cancellations were part of a "continued effort to support Amy Winehouse's wellbeing".

The Sun said that the singer's room was searched after guests at the £500-a-night hotel complained of "strange smells".

"With their reputation it was no surprise management gave the room a thorough check daily," a hotel worker told the tabloid.

"They would have been kicked out if there was evidence of drug use."

A source added that the singer and her husband, now back in the UK, were considering moving to America permanently.

"They were bored on the holiday and missed city life," the source claimed.

"Amy reckons it will be more lively in the US and she'll get less hassle as she's not so well-known."
