Willow Smith - Willow Smith To Star In Annie Musical Produced By Father Will
WILLOW SMITH, the 10-year-old American pop sensation who became a household name after releasing her smash hit 'Whip My Hair' last year, is set to star in a remake of the classic 1982 musical 'Annie', according to the UK's Daily Mirror. The production, set to begin filming in 2012, is reportedly being produced by her father WILL SMITH.
The musical remake will star Willow as the eponymous 'Annie' and will once again be set in a New York orphanage, however, certain elements will be updated to fit with the 21st century audience. For example, JAY-Z has reportedly been approached to work on the movie's soundtrack and he sampled the musical's signature song 'It's A Hard Knock Life' on his 1998 album 'Vol 2.Hard Knock Life'. A source told the newspaper, "Will has signed-up for the project which won't go into post-production until 2012.Willow is the ultimate modern young girl and she already has a huge fanbase. She will help to open up Annie to a whole new audience. And with Jay-Z involved as well, there will be a real R&B twist."
The revamped musical won't be the first to have been given an urban makeover. WHITNEY HOUSTON played the Fairy Godmother in the 1997 adaptation of 'Cinderella', which featured singer BRANDY in the lead. Back in 1978, MICHAEL JACKSON and DIANA ROSS starred alongside side each other in 'Wiz', a remake of 'The Wizard of Oz'.
