Willie Nelson - Willie Nelson Avoids Jail For Drug Possession

Willie Nelson, the 78-year-old singer-songwriter, has pleaded no contest to a charge of possessing drug paraphernalia but has been spared a prison sentence, reports Rolling Stone magazine. Willie Nelson has agreed to pay a $500 fine, along with a court cost charge of $280.
The case will be dismissed entirely providing Nelson stays out of trouble for the next 30 days. The country star was arrested for marijuana possession in Hudspeth County, Texas, in November 2010 when a Border Patrol officer smelled pot smoke insider the singer's tour bus. At the time, the legendary songwriter said, "I had been in California hanging out for a while and my bus had come out to pick me up because we had a couple of tour dates to do and I had forgotten that there was this little bag of weed on the bus that had been in the back there for weeks when I had been gone". Nelson, a member of the National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, was arrested in 2006 after being found with marijuana and magic mushrooms. He paid a fine and was sentenced to six months probation.
Willie Nelson's last album, 'Country Music', hit shelves in 2010. The record was produced by Grammy Award-winning music guru T Bone Burnett and received critical acclaim upon its release.
