Will Networks Be Covering The Rnc Or Isaac?

The anchors of the three major evening newscasts -- Brian Williams of NBC, Diane Sawyer of ABC, and Scott Pelley of CBS -- are set to command the troops of network reporters who will be covering the Republican and Democratic conventions beginning next week. None of them will be covering the opening night of the Republican convention on Monday, the night that Ann Romney is to deliver the keynote address, in an apparent effort to conform to the FCC's Equal Time rule. (The Republican convention is scheduled for four nights, while the Democratic convention is scheduled for three.) While their coverage will be compressed into a one-hour wrap-up each night (Williams and the NBC crew retreat to MSNBC on Wednesday, Sept. 5, the day of the NFL season kick-off), PBS plans to air gavel-to-gavel coverage in Tampa, FL and Charlotte, NC with Judy Woodruff and Gwen Ifill co-anchoring, the first time two women have ever done so. Not to be outdone, Jon Stewart will be anchoring convention coverage for Comedy Central beginning next week in Tampa with what the cable network is calling "RNC 2012 The Road to Jeb Bush 2016." Meanwhile, convention officials and network executives were busily working on contingency plans as Hurricane Isaac bore down on Florida, with a strong possibility of hitting the Tampa area on Monday. Reuters said that they were considering the possibility of postponing or relocating the convention
