Brooke Shields - Why Was Brooke Shields Walking With A Cane At Met Ball?
Hollywood A-listers are known for turning heads with their flashy accessories but Brooke Shields had a rather unusual accessory with her at Monday night's Met Ball (May 7, 2012). Sporting a black cane, Shields stopped to speak to E! Online to explain why she was walking the red carpet with the aid of a stick. It turns out that Brooke had torn the meniscus in her knee, during one of her performances in The Addams Family on Broadway.
She wasn't prepared to let the injury ruin her night out at the ball though, saying that the torn meniscus was "not a big deal, it's inconvenient." She did however point at out the grand staircase at the Metropolitan Museum of Art didn't help much with getting around. She even managed to joke about the less-than-glamorous walking stick and flip-flops that she was wearing, saying "You know what? We'll do anything for fashion!"
Brooke is currently starring in the Broadway version of The Addams Family, playing the role of Morticia (made famous by Angelica Huston in the movie version). She took over the role from Bebe Neuwirth and had such a successful and enjoyable time in the role that she extended her run for an extra two months, to the end of December 2011. "I am having the time of my life playing Morticia with this wonderful company of actors," she said at the time. "Morticia is such a delicious role and The Addams Family is such a fantastic and iconic piece of entertainment that I just couldn't resist the invitation to extend."
