Why Did Chris Brown Cancel Guyana Gig? Women's Rights Pressure Cited And Denied

There seems to be a little bit of confusion over exactly why Chris Brown cancelled his gig in Guyana, recently.

A report from Huffington Post suggested that the concert promoter Hits & Jams pulled out of the show because of a women’s rights protest group arguing that Brown would not be welcome in the country, considering his assault on Rihanna back in 2009. Brown’s rep has denied that, though, telling E! News “This concert was never confirmed. The promoter is being untruthful.” There’s no precise word on why he did cancel, though.

The original report suggested that Chris Brown’s headline show, scheduled for December 26, was cancelled after opposition lawmakers and women’s right groups protested, saying that the R&B singer should not be made welcome in their country, given his past crimes. Hits & Jams pulled out of the event, saying that they felt uncomfortable with the protests. Since committing the offence, in which he hit and choked his then-girlfriend Rihanna, Brown has undergone violence counselling.

Rihanna and Chris Brown have recently been reconciling their friendship. They even recorded a track together on her most recent album, Unapologetic. The track, entitled ‘Nobodies Business,’ has attracted a mix of surprise and disdain from the public many of whom were shocked that Rihanna would choose to rekindle their relationship.
