One of television's top rated shows - 'CSI Miami' - has been axed by CBS and the writers are currently trying to figure out what happened to the beloved show starring David Caruso. Bill Carter - a writer for the 'New York Times' - suggested that the reason for the cancelation was: "because it was more expensive than its newer, and lower-rated, sister show, CSI New York."

Longer running television shows end up costing more money over time due to a variety of reasons. Amongst these are the facts that actors who make a name for themselves through the show and become more and more famous, end up demanding higher and higher pay. Due to labour contracts, even the lowest crew members receive huge pay rises. Another problem is that in order to keep up with a level of quality established over a long run-time, expensive locations are used. This happened to 'CSI Miami', although as the production costs skyrocketed, the rating for the series steadily declined.

'CSI Miami' was on the air for 10 years; 'Csi Crime Scene Investigation' is still going after 13; 'CSI New York' has been going for 9. Due to the sudden end of 'Miami', people are beginning to believe that the other 'CSI' series' will not be around for too much longer. 'The Los Angeles Times' suggested that: "The news marks the beginning of the end for one of TV's most successful franchises of the past decade." The producers and cast of 'Miami' have yet to comment.

Sunday also saw the cancelation of the supernatural drama 'A Gifted Man' despite it's continued high views. The shows averaged around 8.5 million viewers, and yet it was still counted as the lowest-rated shows for viewers between 18 and 49-years-old. The show's star, Patrick Wilson, complained via Twitter that he was not told about the cancelation from the network, but instead received an email. Despite this, he saw the cancelation as "shocking to no one." Wilson explained his thoughts behind the news by saying: "as good as it was (sometimes) it was not what I signed on for."

I'm very sad that CBS have axed CSI Miami the most popular of the three shows. I understand that the show ratings in the US were not good, but CBS should have considered the viewing figures of fans world wide, should also have considered the fact that were many unfinished storylines which could have resulted in at least another series. It would have been good to know that David's character had found happiness with a life long partner. As for all the character's it would have been interesting to know what their future would have been. Shame on those who pulled the plug on our most favourite CSI show, you will never be forgiven.
