Whitney Auction Includes Velvet Dress, Pearl Earrings

Sandy Cohen, for Associated Press has confirmed that several of Whitney Houston's's film-related memorabilia will go on sale at a 'Hollywood Legends' themed auction. The auction will take place on March 31, 2012 at the Julien's Auction gallery in Beverley Hills.
The auction was already scheduled to take place but several WHTNEY HOUSTON related items will now be auctioned, following her sudden death at the age of 48. The items, such as a black velvet dress that belonged to her and a pair of pearl earrings that she wore in The Bodyguard will be auctioned, alongside the staff used by Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments and the jacket worn by Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind. Charlie Chaplin's cane is also included in the lots. In response to being questioned over the morality of selling Houston's memorabilia so soon after her death, a spokesperson for the gallery told the Associated Press that the auction is a "celebration of her life." He added "If you hide these things in fear that you're going to offend someone - her life is to be celebrated. These items are historic now that she passed. They become a part of history. They should be in museums. She's lived a life and had a career that nobody else has ever had."
The velvet dress is valued at $1,000 though will probably fetch more and the earrings have a starting price of $600. Bidding for the items will take place on March 31 and April 1, 2012. Those wanting to bid can do so by phone, online or in person at the auction house, which is just a short way from the Beverley Hills hotel where Whitney died.
