West London rising stars White Lies and singer-songwriter Florence and the Machine have been named on the BBC's Sound of 2009 longlist.
The prestigious list predicts the musicians likely to break through in the next 12 months, with the winner named in January.
Adele finished top of the 2008 list, and proved the judging panel right in the last year, with a number one single and album and nominations for the Mercury prize and Grammy awards.
Other successful acts featured on last year's list included the Ting Tings, Duffy, Glasvegas and Vampire Weekend.
This year's longlist includes arty duo the Big Pink, singer-songwriters Dan Black, Florence and the Machine and Grammy-nominated hip-hop princess Lady GaGa.
