Whitaker Defends 'Attractive' Amin
Whitaker's performance in THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND has already earned him a Golden Globe acting nomination, but his often-likeable depiction of the tyrant - responsible for Uganda's huge death toll in the 1970s while he was president - has prompted accusations his performance may have been too sympathetic.
Whitaker retorts, "I was searching for the truth. I read books, studied documentaries and news footage.
"I think it would be a mistake not to recognise that these often brutal historical figures do have this charisma. To not do that is wrong."
