Which White House Terrorist Movie Will Succeed?
The makers of two upcoming films with virtually identical themes -- terrorists taking over the White House -- are claiming that both films can co-exist. In interviews with the Los Angeles Times, director Roland Emmerich, whose film, Olympus Has Fallen, is due to be released on Friday, and director Antoine Fuqua, whose White House Down is set for release on June 28, claimed that each film can stand on its own and that there are several significant differences in the plot. Emmerich pointed out that while his film centers around a White House takeover by U.S. terrorists, Olympus deals with foreign radicals. However, the Times pointed out that history offers few examples of two films with similar premises, released within months of each other, being equally successful. For one or both of the films, the newspaper observed, the result has nearly always been disastrous -- usually for the second film.
