The Bob Thiele and George David Weiss tune, which was first recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1967, will be honoured at the 46th Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner scheduled for 18 June (15) at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
Past Towering Songs have included Take Me Out To The Ballgame, Moon River, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Stand By Me and Over The Rainbow.
Louis Armstrong's version of the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
Inductees at this year's Songwriters Hall of Fame gala include Bobby Braddock, Willie Dixon, Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia, Toby Keith, Cyndi Lauper and Linda Perry, while Van Morrison, Lady Gaga, fun.'s Nate Ruess and John LoFrumento will be awarded special honours.
