Wes Craven Sticks Knife Into Torture Movies
The veteran slasher movie director admits he enjoyed the so-called 'torture porn' genre when it first became popular in the 2000s through movies such as Saw and Hostel.
But he's adamant the gruesome, explicit images of pain and suffering quickly lose their impact in the follow-up films.
The Scream moviemaker tells Total Film magazine, "When things go on too long, in any particular vein, it becomes more exploitative. I certainly felt there was an audience fatigue with it. I saw the first couple of films of Saw and Hostel and I actually thought they were interesting, but I have no desire to go back and watch another and another and another."
