Weezer - Weezer And Diane Warren Remember Sound Master George Marino

Weezer and songwriter Diane Warren are leading the tributes to legendary rock engineer George Marino after he lost his lung cancer battle on Monday (04Jun12).
Marino became a top figure in the music industry after mastering a series of iconic albums, including Ac Dc's Back In Black, Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction and Metallica's The Black Album.
More recently, he won a Grammy Award for his work on Arcade Fire's 2010 release The Suburbs.
News of his death was confirmed by bosses at New York audio mastering studio Sterling Sound, where Marino had worked since 1973.
A statement from the firm reads, "Today Sterling Sound and the music industry as a whole has suffered a tremendous loss. Senior Mastering Engineer George Marino lost his battle with cancer this morning. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel. George was family to us all and we will miss him dearly."
A host of music stars have taken to Twitter.com to pay their respects, with a post from Weezer stating, "R.I.P. to George Marino, legendary mastering engineer who mastered many of our albums including Blue and Pinkerton."
Warren adds, "Very sad to hear this. Prayers to his wife and my dear friend Rose. Rip to a legend and lovely man. U (sic) will now make the angels sound better than they ever have."
Rockers Anthrax offered, "R.I.P. George Marino. Any decent collection of heavy metal and hard rock will be full of records he mastered," while Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum adds, "Rip George Marino. The great mastering engineer. U (sic) will be missed, but your sound will live on."
3 Doors Down add, "Our thoughts go out to Mastering Guru George Marino's family. He mastered our first record and will be missed."
