Wayne Coyne: 'Badu Loves Controversy'
Coyne released a statement apologising for the leak of the promo for The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face online, confessing he had not been given the OK to post the film, which features images of the R&B star naked in a bathtub, writhing around in glitter and goo, by Badu herself.
But the apology wasn't enough for Badu, who took to Twitter to declare Coyne and his band had "disrespected" and "violated" her and her sister, who also appears in the video.
The two singers then embarked on a Twitter feud throughout last week as Coyne continued to defend the video as Badu attacked him.
Now, he has gone on the offensive, accusing Badu of seeking controversy.
Speaking to the Bbc prior to the Flaming Lips' appearance at the weekend's (09-10Jun12) Parklife Weekender in Manchester, England, Coyne said, "She (Badu) is a controversial entity in the world, so everything that she does has an element of her doing art.
"This video to me is not controversial; it's wonderful and I think Erykah knew she could play into it if we made a video that could be perceived as derogatory. Otherwise I don't think she'd be interested in it."
