Was This Really The Funniest Joke At The Edinburgh Fringe?

Comedian Stewart Francis has won the award for the funniest joke of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The deadpan Canadian - known for his one liners - was given the prize by TV channel Dave for his David and Victoria Beckham themed gag, reports BBC News.

He scooped the 2k prize for his joke, "You know who really gives kids a bad name? Posh and Becks". The British one-liner comedian Tim Vine took the runner-up spot for the second year in a row for, "Last night me and my girlfriend watched three DVDs back to back. Luckily I was the one facing the telly". Vine - who won the award two years ago - featured twice in the list, also for, "I took part in the sun tanning Olympics - I just got Bronze". The winning joke was from Francis' current Edinburgh show 'Return of the Lumberjacks' at The Assembly Rooms. Francis made his Edinburgh debut 15 years ago, though recently found fame in the UK with appearances on shows Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo. Of his win, Stewart said, "1969 West Mall Soccer Association's Most Valuable Player, and now this".

The panel was made up of comedy critics such as Dominic Maxwell of The Times, Mark Monahan of the Daily Telegraph and Bruce Dessau of the Evening Standard. They shortlisted 30 jokes which were chosen by public vote.
