Walmart Sales Now A Factor On Video Sales Chart

For the first time, sales of DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases at Walmart are being included in the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, Home Media magazine reported on Wednesday. While actual sales figures are still not provided in the chart, the inclusion of Walmart, the nation's biggest video disc retailer, should serve to provide a better indication of sales. Paramount's Flight, starring Denzel Washington, topped the chart in overall sales for the week ended Feb. 10, while Disney's 1953 classic Peter Pan, which has never been released on Blu-ray Disc was the top-selling title in the Blu-ray category. On Home Media's rental chart, Flight debuted at No. 1, followed by Sony's Here Comes the Boom. Unlike most other studios, Paramount and Sony do not delay shipping new releases to big rental outlets like Netflix and Redbox for four weeks.
