Wait, Did David Letterman Just Spoil 'Dark Knight Rises' Ending?

Has David Letterman just spoilt the ending of the new Batman movie 'The Dark Knight Rises?' It's hard to tell, until the movie's released but it certainly seemed as though he might be giving the game away when he chatted to Anne Hathaway on his chat show last night (July 12, 2012). Hathaway, who plays the role of Catwoman in the movie, absolved herself of all responsibility when Letterman suggested what might happen at the end of the film. If you would rather not know what Letterman said, you'd best not read on.

Talking about Dark Knight Rises which is scheduled for release, Letterman said to Hathaway "It's not essential to watch previous installations of Batman, and I think this is it. And in the end, Batman is dead." Anne Hathaway responded by turning her head and saying "Dave!" and then starting to laugh. Letterman then tried to appease viewers and fans of the film by saying "No, he's not dead ... He ain't dead, just relax." Hathaway later warned the chat show host: "I just want you to know the wrath that you have just invited onto yourself. Chris [Nolan], I had no part in it, I'm sorry."

Of course, Letterman is known for his dry sense of humor and he certainly likes to push his guests' buttons. Has he really given away the movie's ending? He will have been versed on what he is and isn't allowed to reveal about the movie and it's unlikely that even David Letterman would be willing to deal with the wrath inflicted on him by legions of fanatic Batman fans.
