Mark Wahlberg - Wahlberg's Wife Wasn't Happy With Afghanistan Trip

The Hollywood star decided to bring a little holiday cheer to troops stationed in the war-torn country in December (10), when he held a special screening of his Oscar-nominated boxing film The Fighter on a U.S. Army base.

But Wahlberg admits his wife, model Rhea Durham, was not happy with the trip.

He says, "We (The Fighter castmembers) were supposed to go earlier in the year, but the logistics didn't work out and it ended up happening right before Christmas, on the 17th, and I had never told my wife.

"She asked for a (promotional) schedule and at the bottom it it said: 'AFG, flight 4pm'. She looked at it, she didn't know what it meant, and then I had to say to her, 'I'm going to Afghanistan tomorrow.'

"She says, 'Right before Christmas you're going? It's not like you're going to L.A.' She didn't want me going anywhere, never mind to one of the most dangerous places in the world, but it was important for me to go and bring our love of the sport to the soldiers... They were thrilled, they really enjoyed the film."

And Wahlberg is glad he made the effort to give back to the troops: "Those guys, the sacrifice that they made... I'll never forget it, I don't look at the news the same way. It's so much more real to me."
