The Old Enough to Know Better singer was diagnosed with colon cancer last year (11) and he immediately underwent surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee in an effort to beat the deadly disease.

And after completing weeks of exhausting chemotherapy treatment, Hayes has finally received some good news.

He tells Taste of Country, "I am very happy to say as of now I am tumour free and getting stronger every day. Thank you all so much for the prayer and well wishes."

The star still has four more months of chemo to endure, but he's due to make his first public appearance since falling ill at the Country Music Hall of Fame on Tuesday (06Mar12) as part of the annual Stars Go Blue for Colon Cancer benefit.
