Von Trier Sickened By Norwegian Extremist's Praise
Norwegian right-wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik has claimed he is responsible for killing 77 people in terrorist attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utoya last month (Jul11).
The 32 year old listed Von Trier's 2003 drama, which stars Nicole Kidman, as one of his top three movies on his Facebook.com profile.
Now Von Trier admits he fears the film's final violent scene, in which gangsters brutally murder an entire town, may have inspired Breivik's shooting spree on Utoya.
He tells Denmark's Politiken newspaper, "It makes me excessively sick when I think that Dogville - for me my best film - could have been used as a sort of script for him. It's horrible.
"The last scene of Dogville bears painful similarities with Utoya. You're asking me if I'm sad for having made this film? Yes, if it's proved to have inspired him, I'm sorry for having made it."
