Viewers Tune Out Oprah's Second Night With Armstrong

Despite the fact that, unlike on Thursday, the second part of Oprah Winfrey's interview with Lance Armstrong at 9:00 p.m. on Friday faced little competition from the broadcast networks, the audience plunged 44 percent to just 1.8 million. (A repeat at 11:30 p.m. drew 620,000.) Even on cable it was clobbered by such shows as Gold Rush on the sibling Discovery Network with 4.6 million viewers, WWE Friday Night Smackdown on Syfy with 2.9 million viewers, and A&E's Duck Dynasty with 2.0 million viewers. It tied Hannity on Fox News. Nevertheless, Winfrey's network, OWN, issued a news release on Tuesday saying that about 28 million people worldwide watched at least part of Friday's interview. Washington Post TV writer Lisa de Moraes pointed out, however, that the number is a reach statistic. OWN defines this as anyone who watched one minute or more, she wrote.
